Dimapur, Oct. 11 (EMN): Following its six-day vigil, from September 16 to the 21st, to prevent illegal collections at check-gates in Dimapur, the Public Action Committee (PAC) under Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has submitted a representation to the chief secretary containing a number of demands.

In the representation, submitted on Friday, the committee has demanded the chief secretary to immediately stop the ‘practice of lease system’ employed by the Dimapur Municipal Council; and ensure that DMC collectors wear uniforms with nametags.

It also demanded that commodities without GST be regulated with proper rates and challans to ensure revenue reaches the state exchequer; to strictly formulate which departments are eligible to collect tax, with proper chart and receipts; to immediately stop police personnel from collecting money; to immediately cancel/ban organisations collecting money at gates;  to immediately ban syndicates and allow free open market; and to ensure that district administration regulate prices of all commodities at regular intervals.

“The PAC, NCD is not against the administration or the government of the day but is against the unabated illegal and rampant collection of money. We will continue to monitor and strife to contain the ills prevailing in our city with the help and support of the government, civil societies and tribe hohos,” it stated.

In a separate representation, the committee has also asked the chief secretary to check illegal collection of money on the National Highway between Nagaland and Manipur. It suggested that the chief secretary should coordinate with his Manipur counterpart to contain the illegal activity.
