Dimapur, Feb. 19 (EMN): The Chakhroma Youth Organisation has expressed displeasure at the alleged “random backdoor appointments in the police department” and queried how ‘people with questionable appointments or persons appointed through unfair means protect the rights of its citizens or carry out their duties fairly.’

The organisation issued a press release to the media on Wednesday.

‘The Chakhroma Youth Organisation is flabbergasted at the lackadaisical attitude of the Home department for allegedly making random backdoor appointments in the police department. As per advertisement letter dated Kohima the 3rd of Aug 2019, 208 vacant posts was published and 225 candidates were declared qualified including the candidates in the waiting list,’ the organisation stated.

The organisation demanded to know how nearly 1200 ‘appointments’ were made to undergo training. The organisation stated that it was deeply angered by the process of recruiting police personnel who are supposed to be the guardians of the rights of citizens.

“How will people with questionable appointments or person appointed through unfair means protect the rights of its citizens or carry out their duties fairly. Is there any opportunity for the thousands of the qualified youths?”

Further, the organisation extended its support to the Naga Tribal Union Chumoukedima Town (NTUCT) “for bringing to light and voicing out against the unfair means in recruitment of the police department and ask the Home department to come out clean owning up its prejudices and making corrective measures at the earliest.”

The union lauded the chief minister for promptly initiating an enquiry committee to be set up.

“The union further cautions the government of the day to take steps in curbing unfair means in appointments being made in any departments too, to facilitate a fair chance to all the youths lest the curse of the youths befell on them,” the forum stated.

The press release also mentioned that the Chakhroma Students’ Union too was against the illegal appointment of more than 900 police recruits.

It criticised the Home department “for backdoor appointment in bulk.” The union also lauded the NTUCT for objecting the unfair means in recruitment. The statement had a reminder that this ‘kind of malpractices scars the hopes and aspiration of many unemployed Naga youths.’

The organisation lauded the setting up of an enquiry committee as said by the chief minister during the Nagaland Legislative Assembly session, and that the committee should be set up as soon as possible. The Chakhroma Students’ Union stated that ‘it won’t be a silent spectator if the government doesn’t look into the matter,’ the Chakhroma Youth Organisation stated.
