Police personnel designated as election officials

Dimapur, March 16 (EMN): In pursuance to the standing instruction of the Election Commission of India (ECI), state chief secretary, Temjen Toy, has designated all officers and ranks of Nagaland police from DGP down to constable including home guards, village guards as election related officials.

The designation has been made for the purpose of Section 28A of the Representation of People Act 1951 with effect from the date of notification for election till the completion of the general election to Lok Sabha from Nagaland parliamentary constituency 2019 and the bye-election to Nagaland legislative assembly from 26 Aonglenden (ST) AC.

According to the notification, police official, who are involved in any way in election related arrangement and perform duties in connection with the conduct of general election to Lok Sabha from Nagaland parliamentary constituency 2019 and the bye-election to Nagaland legislative assembly from 26 Aonglenden (ST) AC, are by law, officers of Election Commission, being deemed to be on deputation to it and are subject to its control, superintendence and discipline and as such are answerable to the Election Commission for any acts of commission or omission on their part while performing any election related duties.
