Pochury community called to live in unity

Although a young tribe in Nagaland with 1083 population living in Kohima as per its record, Pochury community is making its existence felt in many aspects, and today the Pochury Hoho Kohima held its 23rd general conference cum Pochury Day with Khuosatho Nyusou, former MLA, as the speaker at Ura Academy Hall, Kohima.
Recalling the early journey and struggles made by the elders of Pochury for recognition of the tribe, Khuosatho Nyusou, addressing the community members, said it was not an easy road to recognition of ‘Pochury Naga.’ However, he maintained that the community should be grateful for who they are today.
Sensing the change of thoughts and lifestyles among the present generation with the change of time, former MLA advised the members to be thoughtful, selfless, live and work for the promotion of the community.
Quoting a proverb, ‘a small family is a happy family’, Nyusou reminded the members that though it may be small in numbers, the community should live in unity and peace among themselves, as well as learn to co-exist peacefully with other communities.
Also emphasizing on the importance towards conservation and preservation of the environment, Nyusou has urged the members to do their bit by protecting the natural resources.
S Peter Trakha, general secretary PHK, in his secretary report said, PHK as the apex body of Pochuris in Kohima has represented and shouldered responsibilities at various meetings, forums and platforms like state level consultative meetings, Naga Hoho, Tenyimia Peoples Organisation etc.
The secretary also mentioned that besides others, in order to portray its unique identity as well as to preserve and to acknowledge its tradition, PHK has observed red letters days such as ‘Pochury Commemoration Day’, ‘Black Day’ and ‘Yemshe Festival’ with utmost fervor and dedication.
Meanwhile, he called upon the community to continue to move forward giving its best in nation building focusing on its visions and goals by investing whatever gifts and resources it has to the process of change towards progressive and better future.
The programme was chaired by Thsela Thupitor while by Rev Zhiwhuotho Katiry, Pastor PBCK invoked God’s blessing and Thorhosie Kajiri proposed the vote of thanks. The audit committee also presented the audit report while the Search Committee announced the new office bearers of PHK. The programme concluded with benediction said by Samson Thur, Pastor UPCK.
