Imphal, Jan. 9 (EMN): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Indian Science Congress (ISC) in Imphal. Manipur University is all set to host 105th edition of the ISC in Imphal from March 16-20.

Disclosing this to media here on January 9, Manipur Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla, who returned back from New Delhi after taking the direct Delhi-Imphal flight, said she have been associated with Science Congress since 1962 when she was doing PhD. Eminent scientists will visit Manipur on two aspects-to see biodiversity and doing more research work in natural resources. Huge number of delegates and scientists would visit the state during the Science Congress, the Governor said adding Nobel laureates are expected to attend the Congress.

Regarding the introduction of direct flight, the governor stated that she had requested the Ministry of Civil Aviation for introducing direct flight from Delhi to Imphal. Air India introduced Delhi- Imphal direct flight service from January 2 considering the public demand and Union Civil Aviation minister’s assurance during his speech in the recently concluded Sangai Festival in Imphal in November last. There would be two direct flights in a week on Sunday and Tuesday for now.

Governor said the direct flight from Delhi to Imphal took only two and half hour. She added that direct flight has made Manipur closer to Delhi and flying time has been reduced. She hoped that other airlines would also follow the same in due course of time.

“We should have more direct flights from other states especially from Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai as well so that more tourist will come to Manipur and it would promote tourism in the state,” she added.”I have also requested the concerned minister to make it happen.”

Currently Imphal has at least 8 flights a day including five flights operated by Indigo, two by Air India and one by Air Asia.
