DIMAPUR — The Phokhungri Area Public Organisation (PAPO) organised a voluntary bamboo plantation drive and observed Bamboo Plantation Day on May 23 across all ten villages under its jurisdiction.
The plantation programme was conducted to promote environmental conservation and encourage self-reliance through the cultivation of bamboo, which serves as a sustainable resource for various domestic, economic, and community purposes.
According to a statement from PAPO, the initiative was undertaken in pursuance of a resolution adopted during the PAPO Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting.
In response to the resolution, village authorities, community leaders, youth organisations, and citizens actively participated in the plantation drive, demonstrating their commitment towards environmental protection and sustainable development.
The organisation highlighted that bamboo, being a fast-growing and versatile plant, plays a significant role in ecological restoration, soil conservation, livelihood generation, and meeting the daily needs of rural communities.
PAPO expressed its appreciation to all the villages and individuals who contributed to the successful observance of the programme. The organisation further urged all villages and stakeholders to continue nurturing the planted saplings and to strengthen collective efforts towards preserving the environment for future generations.
