PDA to field candidates from NDPP to LS and Aonglenden elections

Dimapur, Jan. 21 (EMN): In a significant decision, the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) on Monday unanimously resolved to field the alliance’s consensus candidates under the banner of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) to the by-elections to 26th Aonglenden assembly constituency as well as the Nagaland Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the PDA’s elected members and the PDA coordination committee  at the chief minister’s residential office today under the chairmanship of PDA chairman, Chingwang Konyak, informed a press statement.

“The PDA upholds the decisions of the state cabinet on the matter of the Citizenship Amendment Bill and expresses its strong solidarity with the firm stand of the state government. The PDA also welcomes the decision of the State cabinet to hold consultations with cross sections of society on the matter and in this regard, we appeal to all concerned to come forward in a positive and participatory manner with views and suggestions so that the approach of the government will reflect the will and desire of the people,” it stated.

The collation partners reaffirmed their commitment to unity and understanding within the PDA and reiterated the PDA is on solid footing under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. “The PDA is functioning smoothly with collective responsibility while tirelessly pursuing the commitments of the Common Minimum Program (CMP) of the coalition with encouraging support from all sections of the people.”

It appreciated the tremendous developmental works and welfare programmes being undertaken by the state government in a successful manner as committed in the CMP with the positive support of the NDA government. “The state government has ensured that salaries of its employees especially to teachers and scholarships to students are being disbursed in a timely manner.

“Several new initiatives aimed at upliftment of all sections, promotion of youth empowerment including sports and games, successful implementation of tourism events and new policies under agri and allied sector amongst a host of other developmental activities are ensuring that positive and progressive change is taking place in Nagaland,” read the statement.
