Oriental forms group to lead in peacemaking

Dimapur, Aug. 25 (EMN): Members of Oriental colony in Dimapur have formed a group they have named the ‘People’s Forum for Peace’ (PFP). The objective behind forming the forum is to ‘strengthen the local capacities’ for peace and enabling the community members to act for peace, updates stated.
Local peace activists Peace Channel issued a press release to the media on Sunday informing about the formation.
Elders and members of Oriental colony formed the ‘forum for peace’ following a seminar on peace building conducted by Peace Channel on August 23, the updates stated.

“The seminar was aimed at strengthening the local capacities for peace and enabling the community members to act for peace in the locality with basic skills for peace making and becoming an agent for change through PFP,” the press release stated.

Vitono Gugu Haralu of Peace Channel was stated to have spoken at the seminar as the “key resource person,” who speaking on the need for peace makers. She said Nagaland and its six neighbouring states are all in a conflict zone.
Further, Haralu said a majority of the elders have at some level of experience grown up in conflicting environments.
She spoke about the different kinds of conflict and situations in a community.

“Most of the time we become the source of conflict, be it individual, family, clan or even community. Sometimes the problems are natural some are made up and some comes through external forces,” the press release quoted her as having said.

‘Peace is much needed in every community, religion and tribes and it can exist only when one starts to take the initiative in order to bring peace in our society and amongst ourselves.’

The speaker was stated to have given an account of how “the peace movement” began in Nagaland through training of stakeholders including elders, women and youths in the use of various tools and skills on peace building to become ambassadors of peace in the region.

“Following the inputs the participants shared their opinions, raise doubts and confusion regarding the speech on PFP and its importance. The members and the elders of oriental colony have unanimously decided to form a peace forum in their area with further meeting,” the press release stated.
