NSDMA notifies on mass social work

Dimapur, April 24 (EMN): Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) under the Home Department informed that a state-wide mass social work would be organised on May 4 covering all urban and rural habitations for strengthening awareness and preparedness against any vulnerable disasters during the forthcoming monsoon.

The state-wide mass social work has been initiated in pursuance to the decision adopted during the pre-monsoon preparedness meeting held on April 16 held in the conference hall of the Secretariat.

In an office memorandum, NSDMA stated all out efforts should be made by one and all in taking preventive measures against man-made disasters as “A stitch in time saves nine.”

Following guidelines are issued for enforcement for the mass social work in respective area of responsibility:

  1. a) All clogged drains/ culverts/ natural waterways are to be identified and cleared to ensure free flow of water to avoid flash floods and damage of infrastructures.
  2. b) Encroachment of drains/ waterways/ discharge of terrace waters directly on the road surface are to be removed.
  3. c) Undesirable water- loggings to be drained out
  4. d) Excess rubbish dumps on waterways to be cleared.
  5. e) All departments to take appropriate preventive measures on available infrastructures and to take active participation through respective DDMAs.
  6. f) Department of Rural Development may effectively sensitise and mobilise social works in rural areas through the VDBs.
  7. g) For the purpose of over-all coordination and logistic contingency expenditure, an amount of INR one lakh shall be sanctioned by Home Department to the DDMAs, which in turn should submit APRs with report of social works in respective districts within one week time.
