Phek, Feb. 18 (EMN): Naga People’s Front (NPF) legislator Kuzholuzo Nienu on Tuesday claimed that Nagas are headed for “doomsday”, going by the ‘sad reality of the present situation’.

Nienu was addressing the inaugural session of the 27th edition of Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) at Phek town on Tuesday.

He claimed that Nagas have “fallen short of the glory of God Almighty”, starting with the leaders.

“The leaders (ourselves) have been encouraging nepotism, favouritism, promoting tribalism,” he claimed further.

The former minister went on to assert that the ‘present ordeal is further disintegrating the already fragmented Naga society’.

Referring to the recently concluded budget session of the fifth Nagaland Legislative Assembly, the legislator said, “We truly have some very incompetent leaders who are not even capable of answering questions during the Assembly sessions, not to talk about running a department or two.”

He also stated that ‘some of them are trying their level best to rope in the saffron party’s ideologies just to please their political gurus and be in the chair’.

“They have been given the posts of ministers just by the pressure from the Centre knowing full well their capabilities and ineffectiveness in running the affairs of the government,” the senior legislator claimed.

Meanwhile, he encouraged the wrestlers to be role models.

“Since Nagas really love wrestling, the wrestlers should also lead an exemplary life and inspire the youngsters,” he said.

Further, he encouraged the Naga wrestlers to venture out in the areas of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), arm wrestling and other fields, stating its scope and the rewards can change a person’s life.
