Nizamuddin event: Pangnyu Phom clarifies conflicting figures

The conflicting figures of contact tracing with regard to the Nizamuddin event that was updated by the state government on April 2, which had created confusion among the public, was clarified on Friday.

The minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom clarified that the number of attendees at the Nizamuddin religious congregation from the state of Nagaland was two, and not one.

He stated that the report from the department (Health and Family Welfare) was due to miscommunication and further clarified that the duo had been identified; and the first test result was negative. “The second test samples will be sent soon,” he added.

Meanwhile, one of the state government’s spokesperson on Covid-19 issues, Neiba Kronu, informed that Health department and the state control room have been separately tracking the persons. Till now, out of 70 persons in the list, contact could be established with 62; and 22 are in the state.

Among these 22, only 2 were found to have attended the event and they are under facility quarantine.

No Covid-19 positive cases in Nagaland

Forty-one samples of suspected novel coronavirus (Covid-19) cases have been sent for testing from Nagaland as of 5 pm on April 3, according to an update from one of the state government’s spokesperson on Covid-19 issues, Neiba Kronu.

Out of the 41 samples, 32 have returned negative while results for the remaining nine are awaited, he informed.

There are 3332 persons under home quarantine in the state currently.

“A total of 4715 persons have signed up in the ncovid-19 Nagaland App. Out of which, 3327 persons have self declared with details. I once again, appeal those who have entered the state after March 6, 2020 to self-register in the app with your full details,” he said.

Kronu informed that the daily wage earners, migrant workers and other vulnerable sections, who are facing hardships due to the lockdown measures, are being taken care of by providing food and in some cases shelter as well.

On an average, more than 3000 people are being provided with food daily, and 346 persons have been housed in relief camps and shelters, he added.

Further, a team from the directorate of Health and Family Welfare, led by the principal director, visited Kiphire, Zunheboto and Mokokchung districts to oversee the designated Covid-19 hospitals and interacted with the district administration and district health officials, he informed.

‘I would like to further appeal to anyone from Nagaland who had attended the religious congregation at Nizamuddhin, and not contacted by us yet, to voluntarily come forward and report to the respective deputy commissioner,’ he said.
