Dimapur, Dec. 15 (EMN): A reoccurring theme of concern for speakers addressing a youth event in Dimapur was for the Naga youths to “start adopting the work culture” and that they need to learn to ‘work and eat’ the way their forefathers did, and sustain that culture.

The people should also come out from their comfort zone and strive to achieve their dreams in developing the society, the youths were told.

The Chakhesang Youth Front conducted its 12th biennial general conference on December 13 and the 14th at Bade village in Dimapur. Neiba Kronu, minister for Planning and Co-ordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs attended the general conference on December 14 as its guest speaker.

The organisers issued a press release on Sunday listing out the proceedings of the programme.

In his speech to the gathering, Kronu was stated to have challenged the people of the present generation to ‘wake up from their slumber and work and contribute’ for the development of the society. Drawing from the condition of youths in the developed countries of the world, the politician urged the Chakhesang youths to “start adopting the work culture of them,” the updates stated.

“With Naga solution at hand, he encouraged the youth to keep working and doing what they are doing for their livelihood, and shouldn’t let solution hinder us in our works. He demanded the youth to contribute what they are capable of to the society,” the press release quoted him as having said.

“The present generation should not threaten the government for development but should know how to build friendship with others in exchange for development. Protection of the leaders is the responsibility of the youth. The best and prime time of a person is the youth life so he encouraged the youth to decide and start doing what we can do now.”

Kronu talked also about the policies of the government of Nagaland in empowering the youth to sustain their livelihood and not depending only on government jobs, the updates stated.

Mikha Kenye, president of the Chakhesang Public Organisation, also spoke at the event. In his address, he highlighted the imposition of the ban on various activities in protecting and preserving the wildlife and ecosystems of the community.

‘He requested the youth not to lose the spirit and love of patriotism and nationalism. Youth should be able to tackle any kind of situation that arises and have concrete co-ordination with the other organisations of the society. He iterated the work-and-eat culture that was maintained by our forefathers and should be carried on,’ the press release stated.

Kevechutso Doulo, chairman of the Nagaland Empowerment of People through Energy Development, also exhorted the youths. He urged them to continue to stand united irrespective of differences, in safeguarding the society. He talked about the establishment of the CYF and thanked the pioneers who had contributed to the society, the updates stated.

Doulo cautioned the youths to beware of social media which has “conquered all the platforms of the society and refrain from spreading rumours which creates division among the people and breaks down the integrity of our society which has become the greatest threat.” He urged the youths to expose their talents and earn fame in their respective fields,” the press release stated.

Earlier Dr. Chotisuh Sazo, member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, attended the occasion as the ‘inaugural speaker’ on December 13, the updates informed further. He spoke about the theme of the session, “The diligent hands will rule,” Proverbs 12.24, and challenged the youths to adopt the culture of working hard for survival in this competitive world.

“Portraying the work culture of the advanced countries of the world, he pointed out that we should also come out from our comfort zone and strive for our dreams in developing the society,” the press release stated.

Further, he spoke about the history and early settlement of the Naga people and how their forefathers had ‘struggled for us to be what we are today,’ the press release stated. He was stated to have requested the youths to not forget the good culture of respecting and honouring the elders.

Kezhienyi Khalo, member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, also attended the session, and spoke about his concern for the youths, the updates stated. The member of the legislative assembly urged the youths to be at the forefront to lead the society with their talent and abilities whenever required, the updates stated.
