Nagaland’s final voter turnout revealed

Kohima, April 13 (EMN): After scrutinising the report collected from all the 12 polling districts in the state, the final percentage of voter turnout for the Lok Sabha polls and the 26-Aonglenden (ST) assembly constituency by-election in Mokokchung district were released on Saturday.

The final percentage for Lok Sabha election stands at 83.12%, as against earlier projection of 78.67%, while the total percentage for Aonglenden by-election is 84.35% as opposed to 84.3% reported on the polling day.

Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha had earlier informed that the poll percentage was likely to increase once the polling parties deposit their respective polling materials. Upon the arrival of the polling agents to the state capital, scrutiny was conducted on Friday. Subsequently, the final percentage of the voter turnout to 26-Aonglenden (ST) assembly constituency in Mokokchung district and I-Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency for Lok Sabha was made available to the media on Saturday.

According to CEO, the total voter turnout for Parliamentary election to Lok Sabha was 10,670.  As much as 4,95,266 female voters and 5,07,404 male voters had exercise their franchise on April 11. It maybe mentioned that Nagaland has a total of 12, 13,777 electorates including 5,98,503 women and 6,15,274 men voters; and 7415 service voters.

For the Aonglenden by-election, the female voters’ turnout was 86.6% as compared to 82% male voters.

Four candidates—KL Chishi (INC), Tokheho Yepthomi (NDPP), Hayithung Tungoe (NPP), and Dr MM Thromwa Konyak (Independent)—are vying for the lone Lok Sabha seat. Meanwhile, Sharingain Longkumer (NDPP) and Alem Jongshi (INC) are in fray for the Aonglenden seat.
