Dimapur, Sep. 16 (EMN): The Zeliangrong Students’ Union (ZSU) Nagaland has expressed discontentment over the continued practice of logging activities in Peren district despite the district administration banning it.

In a press release issued on Monday, the union stated that logging activities were destroying the green cover of Peren district, while the loaded log trucks were damaging roads, especially during the rainy season.

Despite the ban on logging activities notified by the deputy commissioner on May 21, the ZSU maintained that some persons were “carrying out logging activities despite orders from the union and from the district administrators”.

In order to reaffirm the complete ban on logging activities in Peren district, the ZSU conducted a “consultative meeting with Peren District Timber Traders Union (PDTTU) and the Forest department on September 9″, it informed.

The ZSU appreciated PDTTU for their cooperation and further warned that if trucks are caught “ferrying with log during its banned period, the union will adhere to its action as per office resolution”.
