Nagaland: Tokheho Yepthomi pitches road development in LS
Dimapur, July 16 (EMN): Lok Sabha member from Nagaland Tokheho Yepthomi has asked the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to ensure that the ongoing four-lane highway construction work in Nagaland is completed as per specification.
A press release from the MP’s office on Tuesday stated that Yepthomi pitched this request while participating in the budget discussion and voting on demands for grants. “The MP brought to the notice of the house that in three of the four locations under RAMKY-ECI (JV) where blacktopping is already done there are potholes.”
Yepthomi also urged the union minister of MoRTH to provide funds for maintenance of NH-702, which was previously a defence road. This link, he said, was an important route connecting Phek and Mokokchung districts and the plight of the road was such that heavy vehicles could no more ply.
“He suggested that instead of giving contractors a lump sum amount for maintenance of roads, the ministry should provide funds according to the length of the road. The MP also urged the government to improve the road leading from Kohima to International Trade Centre at Avangkhu village under Meluri subdivision in keeping with the ‘Look East Policy’.
“The road from Myanmar is nearing completion whereas the road in Nagaland leading to the Trade Centre has still not been taken up for improvement,” he shared.
