Dimapur, Feb. 20 (EMN): In yet another indication of the state government’s bid to cleanse the School Education of malpractices, which have been running rampant for decades, the governor’s office on Thursday recommended criminal charges against three Education officials—including a senior officer—for financial mismanagement.

In an official communication, dated February 17, the commissioner and secretary to the governor of Nagaland, had written to the chief secretary, informing of the governor’s “desire” to press charges against three Education officials.

It pointed out that the department of School Education has served show cause notices to Dr. Chubanungsang Imchen, Joint Director of School Education; Imtionen, Junior Education Officer of School Education; and Y Daniel Lotha, Junior Education Officer at DEO, Wokha “for commission of the offence of misappropriation of public money, fabrication of documents, cheating and criminal breach of trust, inflicting financial loss to the state exchequer”.

The governor’s office reminded the chief secretary that the Supreme Court “has held that criminal and departmental proceedings may run simultaneously”.
