Nagaland registered 97 cases of missing children in 2018

Dimapur, Jan. 21 (EMN): Nagaland reported 97 cases of missing children under 18 years in 2018, while the total missing persons cases recorded in the state was 145, according to the recently released crime report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

Out of the 97 missing children 58 were girls, while the remaining 39 were girls. Among the 145 missing cases, 61 were males and 84 females, the report said. The cases were based on unrecovered or untraced reports including previous years.

The report revealed that 81 out of the 97 missing children reported in Nagaland were recovered or traced, indicating a recovery rate of 83.5 per cent.  A total of 16 children, five boys and 11 girls were reported to have been untraced or un-recovered. Meanwhile, 114 missing persons were traced by the end of 2018.

Altogether, 5,83,906 cases of missing persons were reported in the country, out of which 1,15,656 were children below 18 years. The report indicated a 51.49 per cent recovery rate for adults and 61.54 per cent for children.

Furthermore, 599 transgender cases were also reported, with 161 missing transgender children.

West Bengal reported highest number of missing children with 16,027 cases, followed by Madhya Pradesh with 15,320 and Bihar with 12,072 cases. Among the union territories, Delhi reported the highest with 14,986 cases, the NCRB report said.
