Dimapur, Sep. 10 (EMN): The Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, Yanthungo Patton inspected the scene of the recent tussle between Lamhai Namdi and Kiyevi B/Khehoi villages in Peren district, which had led to firing and burning down of houses.
According to a press statement from the deputy CM’s media cell on Tuesday, the district officials informed Patton that the area has become “relatively peaceful after the chief secretary issued orders for maintaining status quo.”
“The deputy chief minister lamented that during the creation of Peren district, proper demarcation was not made as a result of which, half of the disputed area lies in Dimapur district and the other half in Peren district which has made the matter more complicated. Patton informed that for this particular issue, a cabinet subcommittee has been constituted; the committee will be meeting on the 12th of this month,” the statement read.
Patton further mentioned that he would “advice the committee to visit the areas for detailed information”. He has also “appealed to the stakeholders to maintain status quo till the matter is properly examined and resolved,” it read.
The Director General of Police (DGP) Nagaland, TJ Longkumer asked the police officers to be on alert for “disturbances and provocations” and urged all parties concerned to refrain from taking “the law in their own hands”, it added.
He has appealed to “maintain harmony to ensure there is no loss of life as the government is on its job,” it informed.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Sentiwapang Aier, road construction activities in the disputed area have been temporarily ceased. Aier said that they have been unable to reach to a logical conclusion “due to claims and counter claims from both parties”; and the issue ‘has been forwarded to the government,’ it informed.
Furthermore, the superintendent of police, Peren informed that reserved police have been stationed at all “strategic locations” and the deputy CM and the DGP have also agreed to deploy additional platoons in order to avoid escalation of the issue and to “maintain peace and tranquillity”.
