Dimapur, Aug. 12: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has released the first instalment for the construction of Longleng-Tuensang road under the North East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS).

The NEC Secretary Ram Muivah said that a total of INR 75.44 crore has been released to the Public Works Department (PWD), government of Nagaland, out of the total amount of INR 188.61 crore. “The department will start the process for tendering and other paperwork,” he said.

Muivah was addressing a consultative meeting on the ‘rehabilitation and upgradation of Longleng-Tuensang road under NERSDS’ at Sakshi village in Longleng district on Monday. He further informed that the work will begin by November 1 and hoped that in his next visit he would not have to “travel on a muddy road like today.”

Muivah also said that it is the state government who would have to send proposals to undertake projects under NEC, and assured that any proposal under Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) area will be taken up on priority.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare S Pangnyu Phom said that the occasion was akin to a ‘Red Letter Day’; and requested the public, particularly those who will be affected by the work, not to seek for land compensation as the project does not provide reimbursement but rather be guardians so that anti-social elements do not disrupt the progress of the work. The legislator called upon NGOs and civil organisations of Longleng and Tuensang districts to closely coordinate and monitor the work in order to prevent anti-social activities.

Since the project is time- bound, Phom also sought cooperation from all sections of society so that the work can be completed within the stipulated time as per the detail project report specification. He assured his full support and cooperation to the district administration and contractors for timely completion of the project.

He expressed gratitude to the government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Secretary of NEC Ram Muivah for fulfilling the dream of the people of Longleng and Tuensang districts.

The NEC secretary remarked that his trip to the district was a “memorable journey” he will never forget; and expressed gratitude to the minister of Health and Family Welfare for inviting him and expressed his eagerness to visit Sakshi village again.
