Dimapur, July 2 (EMN): Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday expressed alarm over Nagaland being ranked recently as the state with the highest number of educated unemployed youth in the country.
According to a DIPR report, the chief minister said that it was time for colleges in Nagaland to train students to be independent and help them look for other avenues of earning besides the government sector.
Rio was speaking at a programme to mark the launch of the new campus site of Mountain View Christian College at Nerhe Phezha in Kohima on Tuesday. Mountain View Christian College was established in 1991 and is currently looked after by the Educational Visionary Forum and a management board.
The chief minister thanked the members of the Educational Visionary forum for their service to the society. He said that the location was ideal for studies and hoped that the college will one day become a noted centre of excellence.
“He thanked the landowners for generously donating the land for the college and appealed to the villagers to give cooperation and support to make the college one of the best institutions in the state. He concluded by assuring the college administration that the government would readily provide any help possible to ensure the success of the college and wished them all the best in all their future endeavours,” read the report.
Minister for Higher & Technical Education Temjen Imna Along said that it was rare in Nagaland to find a society undertaking such a noble endeavour. “Optimum usage of minimum resources for maximum output should be the new goal for us,” he said.
With the launch of the new college campus, the college will be shifted from its old campus at Keyake (BSF Camp) Kohima.
“The new campus of Mountain View Christian College in Nerhe Phezha marks a new beginning for the people under Chiephobozou subdivision as it is the first college to be set up in that region. It will greatly benefit the students of the area, as they no longer have to travel to Kohima or Dimapur in pursuit of higher studies,” according to the report.
