Dimapur, Feb. 8: Nagaland will observe a total bandh on Feb. 11 to demonstrate opposition to the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), 2016.
The general secretary of Nagaland Gaon Burah Federation (NGBF), Shikuto Zalipu, told Eastern Mirror over the phone on Friday that the resolution passed in a meeting conducted among the tribe hohos, civil societies, and mass-based organisations on Feb. 6 at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur.
He said that all the apex tribal organisations would take responsibility to organise the bandh in their own districts. “The tribal leaders and mass-based organisation will make further decisions after the bandh,” he added.
Zalipu stated that there was a peaceful rally about the submission of memorandum for CAB and Naga political issue on Friday Feb. 8 in Kohima.
He explained that during the rally, a representation expressing Naga people’s opposing the was submitted to the president of India through the state governor; while a separate representation to the prime minister has also been submitted through the governor to appeal for the solution to Naga political issue.
Meanwhile, a press statement from the organisations on Friday stated that all Naga people should observe prayer day on Sunday Feb. 10, in all churches for the two issues mentioned above. The Joint Christian Forum, pastors, and tribal leaders have entrusted to make necessary announcements.
“The NGBF and Joint Committee on Prevention of Illegal Immigrants will jointly coordinate and supervise the above,” read the statement.
