Kohima, Sep. 5 (EMN): Fourteen teachers were conferred with the State Teacher’s Award during the state-level Teachers’ Day celebration at the NBCC Convention Centre in Kohima on Thursday.

Four teachers were from private schools and the remaining 10, government-run schools.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary Temjen Toy said that students believe everything taught by their teachers as the truth; and would even argue with their parents at home insisting their teachers are right.

Toy said that the children hold ‘in highest esteem’ the words of their teachers. Thus, he pointed out, teachers not only build a nation, but also influence the character of a nation.

The chief secretary urged the teachers to be honest in all aspects of their duty and be a role model for their students.

“While we teach the child about the wonders of sciences and of the world, let us not forget to also teach our children the basics of good human beings,” he said.

According to him, teachers typically tend to focus on the academic performance of the students.

However, Toy asked them to ‘change with the times’ and nurture the child’s creativity, personal interests while nursing them to become responsible citizens.

Asserting that no other professions have such profound impact on the lives of children, Toy reminded the teachers that they are being observed and watched by the students who consider them as their role models and heroes.

Around 1000 teachers and 3000 students participated in the celebration.

Meanwhile, a handout issued by the State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) officials at the venue informed that the energised class 5 English and Social Science textbooks having QR codes with videos in them to enhance learning and teaching profession are now available online, which has been created by SCERT under the project of Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing (DIKSHA)initiated by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, government of India.

Teachers can use the energised textbooks to enrich their classroom teachings while students and parents can also use them to understand more on the concept of the subjects. To avail them, one can download the DIKSHA App from Google playstore or login to www.diksha.gov.in/nl.

Meanwhile, Nagaland’s Satyen Kumar Roy of Mount Moriah School, Ungma in Mokokchung district was said to be among the 46 National Teacher’s Award recipients, presented by Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India on Thursday in New Delhi on Thursday.
