Dimapur, Aug. 21 (EMN): The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has expressed pain and serious concern over a series of rape and murder incidents on women and girls in the state.

The NMA said through a press statement that it is shocking to see Nagaland being traumatised with gory incidents almost every day.

“In order to curb the rising rates of crimes against women and girls, the need to change our mindset has become an absolute necessity. We urge our sons, brothers and fathers to stop inflicting shame and reproach on us. Help us live with dignity and honour,” read the statement.

The NMA has also condemned the upsurge of killings and shootings among the various factions.

“We gain nothing eliminating when we have already loss so many precious lives. What more pain than losing our beloved ones like these?” it asked. It also appealed to all the “armed groups to shun violence and instead maintain peace and tranquillity within and outside the perimeters.”

“We beseech you all to address issues courageously and with sincerity with respect to human lives. As mothers, we continue our cry for peace and security with our slogan, “Shed No More Blood.”

“As mothers, we are faced with multiple challenges and the aggressive interferences to destroy our fight for humanity and justice. We will continue to work towards building a healthy and viable understanding, for peace and unity,” it stated.

The NMA went on to say that the state government should ensure that “safety, security and respect for precious human lives is upheld and take strong preventives measures to prevent recurrence of violence and killing in the state.”
