Kohima, March 30 (EMN):
The Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) on Monday handed over two smart ambulances to Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) to fight the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

The two ambulances are equipped with oxygen cylinders B type/bulk type, ventilator, ECG, suction, foot suction, monitor, laryngoscope, 5 KVA online UPS, portal stretcher, surgical disposals, syringe pump, defibrillator and AC built in. They were procured for the city under citizens’ health provision of smart city scheme and are under procedural formalities to be operational.

However, in view of the urgency of preparedness and requisite facility shortages faced by the state government to fight the novel coronavirus pandemic, the two ambulances were given to NHAK. Chief Executive Officer of KSDCL Kovi Meyase said that it decided to give the ambulances to the hospital after considering the gravity of the prevailing situation; so that it can used for the citizens during the health crisis.

The two smart ambulances are to be returned to KSCDL in serviceable condition with all the features intact, once the Covid-19 pandemic is brought under control, Meyase said, adding that the paramedic vehicles will be GPS-monitored by KSCDL, information of which can be obtained by the Kohima smart city.

Advisor to Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Neikiesalie Kire, while handing the ambulance keys over to managing director of NHAK, said that it was a blessing in disguise. Ambulances have found the right place and given to the right people, he said, requesting NHAK to make the best use of the facility.

Everyone is working very hard to get things done to face any eventualities. The government is trying its best to face the situation, he said and appealed to the public not to be ‘so negative of the government’s initiative’.

Managing Director of NHAK Dr. Thorhusie Katiry said that the hospital was desperately looking for an ambulance and thanked KSCDL for stepping in. He assured to make the best use of it for transporting patients. Though there are no positive cases in the state, ‘we can’t take any chance,’ he added.

The principal secretary of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, I Himato Zhimomi, also said that not a moment goes without thinking about the welfare of the citizens. He further assured cooperation to the medics and healthcare workers.
