Dimapur, Sep. 26 (EMN):
With an aim to provide basic psychiatric services to the people in all the District Hospitals and selected CHCs and PHCs, a two-day Modular Training of Medical Officers (MOs) from District Hospitals, Community Health Centres, and Primary Health Centres kicked started on September 26.

Addressing the MOs, Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. N Bendangyanger Jamir said the training was organised to update their knowledge and equip them with the basic information on how to identify the mental problem of a patient in their OPD. He also called upon them to take the opportunity to clear all doubts.

Stating on the importance of the training, he said it will benefit them helped them geared up with the basic skills of detecting cases of psychiatric element and provide treatment.

SPO of Mental Health Program, Dr. Khriezotuo said the programme is at its nascent stage and expressed hope that the MOs will be fully equipped and offer active service to the people in need after the training the programme.

The trainers included Dr. T Wabang, MS of State Mental Health Institute Kohima (SMHIK); Dr. Temsulong, MO of SMHIK; and Dr. Chikrozo Kezo, Nodal Officer of Mental Health, Dimapur. They will cover topics encompassing different mental issues like assessment and management of mental health in general practice, schizophrenia, anxiety disorder, alcohol use and drug use disorder, Samatoform disorders, psychiatric problems in elderly, epilepsy and psychiatric emergency.
