Dimapur, July 19 (EMN): The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT), a youth organisation, has appealed to the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government to give the present Minister for Public Work Department (Roads & Bridges) Tongpang Ozukum a chance to serve the people if reshuffle in the ministry should take place.

The organisation has stated in a press release that a young capable minister in the person of Ozukum was given the opportunity of an important portfolio in the state government after many years and that his performance in the last one year has been appreciated from different quarters.

“He has done a lot of development activities not only in Mokokchung town but has also initiated developmental works in different parts of the state. In fact, he is one of the most enthusiastic ministers in the present PDA dispensation who tirelessly works for the people and try to ensure that the developmental activities in his ministry are executed attentively,” read the statement.

It said there might be certain misgivings from certain quarters from the part of the minister but felt that he “should be given at least a few more time so that his mettle can be done tested to the fullest.”

“The MTLT thoroughly understands that it is the prerogative of the chief minister to effect any kind of changes in his ministry; and the MTLT do not have any knowledge whether there would be any minor reshuffle in the PDA government. However, if there should be a reshuffle, the MTLT sincerely appeals the PDA leadership to kindly consider our sincere appeal so that an upcoming and dynamic leader like Shri. Tongpang Ozukum is also given an opportunity to serve the people to his fullest,” it added.

Stating that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio had recently hinted at a minor reshuffle in the PDA government, the organisation has appealed to the CM, PDA chairman Chingwang Konyak and BJP Nagaland unit president Temjen Imna Along to “review the working of their esteemed colleagues – the ministers and advisors – and effect the changes so that the present trend of developmental activities initiated by the PDA government is not disrupted in any manner.”

The youth organisation also congratulated the PDA government under the leadership of Rio, Deputy CM Y Patton and Konyak for steering the state government successfully for more than a year in office. Stating that it has been closely observing the performance of the NDPP-led PDA government in the last one year, it said, despite some “ups and downs”, the CM and his council of ministers, advisors and PDA alliance partners have provided a stable government.

It went on to state that the PDA government is more stable today after the recent victory of NDPP candidate Sharingain Longkumer in the by-election to the 26-Aonglenden assembly constituency and Tokheho Yepthomi to the Lok Sabha, creating a better environment to provide the best of the governance to the citizens of Nagaland.

“Moreover, with a strong opposition party in the form of the Naga Peoples’ Party (NPF) ever ready to check the state government, the Naga people cannot help but express deep satisfaction at the present set-up in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly,” added the statement.
