Mokokchung, Aug. 21 (EMN): In commemoration of the Mokokchung Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF) attaining five years of office, members of the division on Wednesday distributed umbrellas to local vendors at the Wednesday Bazaar, popularly called the ‘Watsu market,’ at the MMC shopping complex in Mokokchung town.
Watsu bazaar is a weekly market which was started in the year 2010 by the Watsu Mungdang, the apex tribal organisation of Ao Naga women. Women from Mokokchung and outside the district sell various commodities, from the decorative to food, at the market.
According to Watsu Mungdang sources, the NPF party workers distributed more than 300 umbrellas to the local vendors as part of ‘community service.’
The Watsu Mungdang’s President Moanginla said during an informal programme that the gesture from the NPF was an ‘unexpected blessing which is very motivating and exemplary’ for the society.
The community leader acknowledged the team of office bearers led by their president Moasangba Jamir. She urged the party to play the role of a strong opposition, adding that a government without a strong opposition was not efficient.
The party’s president, Jamir, acknowledged the Wastsu Mungdang for their initiative to promote and empower women regardless of their ethnicity and residence. He appreciated them for their contribution to the local economy.
