Mokokchung, July 13 (EMN): After three days of intensive shuttle matches, the 33rd Mokokchung District Open Badminton Championship culminated at the Indoor Badminton Stadium in Mokokchung town on Saturday, July 13 with T Aochuba, Divisional Officer, Mokokchung, as the special invitee.
In his speech, Aochuba lauded the Mokokchung District Badminton Association (MDBA) for organising the tournament continuously in a befitting manner to create a platform for youngsters to hone their skills and also popularise the game of badminton.
Stressing on the staggering growth of unemployment in the state, he also asserted that in a scenario where government jobs reached its saturation point, time has come for the parents to introspect and prepare their children to face the challenges in life.
In this connection, he said entrepreneurship and sports sectors are one such area which can generate employment and suggested that the parents should look towards a bigger spectrum to prepare their children to embark for a sustainable future before they reach the frustration point.
To the players, he said if they want to pursue their passion in sports than they must think beyond. ‘Your patience, hard work and determination will propel you to think beyond to achieve success in life,’ he said.
According to tournament synopsis, 82 players that included 65 boys and 17 girls participated during the three-day tournament under 16 categories.
Convener, selection committee Tia Mollier informed that 59 players have been handpicked after overseeing their performance in the tournament to represent the district for the upcoming Nagaland State Open & Inter-District Badminton Championship which is slated to be held in August.
The selected players will undergo intensive coaching to participate in 17 categories, he added.
