Moatoshi inaugurates Lengri bridge

Dimapur, Feb. 18 (EMN): A newly reconstructed bridge connecting Boro Lengri to LRC colony and Notun Basti was inaugurated on February 18 by Moatoshi Longkumer, MLA from 2 Dimapur II AC.

Delivering a brief speech on the occasion, Longkumer thanked God and all the people who have sacrificed their time for the success of the project. He stated that the bridge was for the comfort and benefit of the people and should not be used for illegal activities.

He also urged the councils of the various colonies and villages to keep a strict vigil in order to curb an illegal activities, an update from Boro Lengri council stated on Tuesday.

It mentioned that the old bridge was in a dire need of repair and reconstruction as it is the lifeline for at least five villages across the river in Assam. It stated that the people living on both side of the stream are mostly daily wage workers who depended on the bridge for their daily activities. Besides, it is the closest route to the railway station and all the important markets and facilities.

It was in 2019, the respective council members approached the MLA with a proposal to build a reinforced concrete bridge large enough for two vehicles to ply.

The inaugural programme was organised by the Bagan Bridge Construction Committee, Bor Lengri. Kazheto Sukhai chaired the programme while Rev. L Bendang, pastor of UBC, said the invocation prayer.

Holuto Awomi, GB of Adivasi Tea Estate Gaon, expressed gratitude to the MLA for his benevolent gesture to construct the bridge. He added that they had, in the past, approached many authorities to repair the bridge both in Nagaland and Assam but to no avail.
