Imphal, Dec. 22 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh said that the state will not develop and prosper when there is mistrust among the communities.

Stating that honesty and sincerity are the keys to bring change in the state, he called upon the people to unite and march forward together to bring  positive development in the state.

The chief minister was speaking at the International Meitei Pangal convention on Sunday at the City Convention Centre in Imphal, organised  under the aegis of the All Manipur Muslim Organisations’ Co-ordinating Committee (AMMOCOC).

“When we don’t have human values and mutual respect, there is no meaning of following any religion,” he said adding that the greatest religion is to serve the poor, the needy and the helpless.

He  appealed the Meitei Pangal community to adopt and continue to use the ancestral surnames given by the subsequent Kings of Manipur.

The chief minister further informed that the socio-economic survey of the Meitei Pangal would be continued soon.

A  special souvenir titled ‘Thong’ was also released during the programme.

Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly K Robindro and President SM Jalal of AMMOCOC besides  MLAs O Lukhoi (Wangoi), Md Fajur Rahim (Wabagai), L Susindro (Khurai), Asab Uddin (Jiribam)  were also present at the conference.
