Kisama, Dec. 10 (EMN):
People take the name of the Father of Nation as if they would a brand for things but unless their mentality and action are like his, it would be just a thing that is merely fashionable, Minister Temjen Imna Along said.

The programme was organised by the office of Regional Outreach Bureau, Ministry of Information and Bureau.

Addressing the gathering, the minister maintained that the sanitation programmes Swachh Bharat, Swach Nagaland (Clean India, Clean Nagaland) is not ‘Indianisation’ but an initiative for all to live life in a better environment. According to Along, people take his name as a brand for things but unless the thought process is demonstrated in their work, it would just be fashion. He urged the people be determined to take decisions in life the way Mahatma Gandhi did in leadership and bring changes that would empower the people.

The politician maintained that the Earth is sufficient for people’s needs but not for their wants. He lamented that the Nagas are now driven by wants and greed.

To this, Along urged the people to ‘walk and breath the philosophy of Mahatma’ which would build a robust and sustainable society to uplift the status of the weak and the deprived.

The minister also spoke about his dreams for Nagaland that the states would not be known only for festivals but for the life of the people.

On the Hornbill Festival, the minister urged the people to grow with their rich cultural heritage and traditions.

Earlier, delivering the welcome address, P Sophie of the regional outreach bureau of Kohima urged the people to live based on the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
