MDFA Trophy: YA Marepkong and Rongpang Reju win

Mokokchung, Oct. 16 (EMN): In a do or die match Y/D Marepkong defeated Kumlong SA 2-1 to secure their hope to enter the quarter-final while Rongpang Reju registered a win and SSS Yellow settled for a goalless draw against Telongjem FC in the ongoing MDFA trophy at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex on Tue. Oct. 16.

Marepkong was placed in a critical spot today after they had one win and one loss in the previous matches but today’s 2-1 triumph against Kumlong SA has secured a hope to enter the quarters.

Kumlong SA is out of the tournament after they end all the three matches with two losses and one draw in their respective pool. Moasosang of YA Marepkong scored both the goals for the team in the 10th and 41st minute. Yangersosang of Kumlong SA scored the lone goal in the 63rd minute. Kumlong SA tried hard to equalise the second goal but failed.

The second match between SSS Yellow and Telongjem FC ended in a goalless draw. With 50-50 ball position, the defence of both the teams was equally strong.  Longersunep of Telongjem FC was given a yellow card in the 12th minute of the game.

Rongpang Reju secured a 2-1 win against Friend’s United in the third match. Jungpetrong, the captain of Rongpang Reju scored the first goal in the 34th minute after a tireless effort to open the lead for his team.

The captain found an opening when he snatched away the ball from his opponent and dribbled down three more players inside the penalty before finishing with a clinical strike.

Two yellow cards were cautioned to Takawati and Jeminungsang of Friends United in the 7th and 14th minute while Aripong of Rongpang Reju was also cautioned in the 11th minute.

The second goal for Rongpang Reju came through a penalty scored in the 63rd minute by Jungpetrong. Calvin Kent scored the only goal for Friends United FC in the 70th minute. They failed to equalise the second goal sending them out of the tournament.
