Mokokchung, Oct. 9 (EMN): Telongjem FC on Wednesday defeated FC Young Boys 2-0 at the ongoing MDFA trophy league round played at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.

Striker Purakum opened the account for Telongjem FC in the 28th minute after  defender Moasunep assisted him through a free kick.

After breaking the deadlock, Telongjem FC were looked confident and continued to pressure their opponents even as FC Young tried to find an equaliser.

Niythong Magh scored added one more goal to Telongjem FC’s score line by scoring in the 34th minute.

FC Young Boys got their fair chance but all went in frustration as Telongjem FC outplayed them. The scoreline remained static till the final whistle.

Bendangmongba (Jersey 9) of FC Young Boys received a yellow card during the match.

In the second match of the day, Intermingle Club defeated  YA Marepkong 2-0. Limatoshi Longkumer and Bendangnukshi scored a goal apiece to seal the match for the team.

It was Intermingle Club’s second victory in two matches from Pool A.

YA Marepkong’s goalkeeper made a string of impressive saves right from the start but ultimately fell prey to the raid of Intermingle’s striker Limatoshi Longkumer in the 33rd minute.

The goal came after midfielder Wapong and left winger Ratobe Poireng ensured some cutting edges but were missed unfortunately every time. The midfielder than assisted a long pass from the centre and Limatoshi Longkumer made an agile run, outflanking the defenders and finished off with a crisp strike just before half-time.

Ratobe Poireng was called out for retirement to the bench after some minutes in the second half and was replaced by Bendangnukshi.

Intermingle FC continued to keep the game under their control and unleashed swift attacks but the stubborn YA Marepkong resisted.

However, YA Marepkong’s hope took a beating just five minutes before the stoppage-time when substitute Bendangnukshi fired a shot into the left post from a close range to seal the match for Intermingle Club.

Nungsangmanen and Akumnungsang of YD Marepkong were handed yellow card during the match.
