Martyrs’ Trophy: Inclement weather plays spoilsport

First quarter-final match between Centurion and Chumu Town postponed

Kohima, Oct. 10 (EMN): The first quarter-final match of the ongoing NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy between defending champions Centurion FC Kohima Village and Chumu Town Youth Organisation (CTYO) was postponed due to inclement weather on Thursday.
The playground at Khuociezie local ground in Kohima was waterlogged due to incessant rains while fog made it almost invisible for the referee to officiate. The officials and organisers had to call off the match just two minutes before the full time.

The teams were locked in a goalless draw before the match was suspended.
The two teams will resume the match at 88th minute today (October 11) at 10 am. In case of a tie, the match will go to extra time of 30 minutes (15+15).

While expressing regret over the inconvenience caused to the fans, the organisers announced that the entry will be free for the match to be played on Friday.

Roko Angami, President of Nagaland Football Coach Association was the patron of the match.
Meanwhile, the second quarter-final match between MVYO and KVSU, Kohima village will played on Friday as scheduled. Naga Hospital Colony Youth Organisation will play against MTYO Medziphema in the third quarter-final match on Saturday while Viswema FC will play against Unity FC in the last quarter-final match on Monday (October 14).

The champions of this year’s edition will walk away with a cash prize of INR 1,20,000 while the runners-up will receive INR 2,00,000.

The losing semi-finalists will walk away with INR 30,000 each and the four quarter-finalists will receive INR 15,000 each. The player of the tournament will be awarded with a motorcycle, while the best custodian, best defender, best midfielder and highest scorer will receive INR 10,000 each.
