Manipur Police arrested a man and recovered over 189 kg of opium seeds along NH-102 in Tengnoupal district.

IMPHAL — Manipur Police on Saturday arrested a man from Tengnoupal district bordering Myanmar and seized more than 180 kilograms of opium seeds from his possession.
In a statement, Manipur Police stated that they arrested a person identified as Tholung Koshel Lamkang, aged 34, of Thamnapokpi under Tengnoupal district, from Pallel Chandel Lamkhai along NH-102 on May 23.
Police recovered 189.05 kg of opium seeds and a Maruti A-Star vehicle bearing registration number MN06LB-1903 from his possession.
Saturday's arrest and seizure of opium seeds followed the arrest of another man from the Churachandpur district along with 33 soap cases of suspected brown sugar, 40,000 contraband items (tablets) weighing approximately 3.8 kg, a Maruti Ignis car bearing registration number MZ01AD-5474, and a mobile phone on May 22.
The arrested person was identified as Siamkhansuan Samte, aged 44, of Gouchinkhup Veng in Churachandpur. He was arrested from a temporary motor vehicle checkpost at Suangdoh village under Singhat police station in the hill district.
On January 18 this year, Manipur Police arrested an individual along with 16.6 kg of opium from the Behiang side along Tiddim Road under Singngat Police Station in Churachandpur district.
In one of the biggest drug seizures in the region, security forces arrested four drug dealers along with 12,50,000 tablets weighing around 147 kg in Manipur's Jiribam district bordering Assam in December last year.
