Manipur governor flags off organic farming tour for farmers from NE

Dr. Najma Heptulla along with the farmers from Northeast and Assam Rilfles at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Saturday.Dimapur, Oct. 13 (EMN): Manipur Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla flagged off the organic farming tour to Sikkim for 50 farmers from all the north-eastern states on October 12 at Raj Bhavan in Imphal.

The tour was organised by Battalion of Assam Rifles, Manipur  under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) as part of its Civic Action Programme 2019-20, in coordination with the State Agriculture Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Sikkim, an update received here on Sunday informed.

The tour-cum-training for the farmers included lectures on Sikkim Organic Mission, pest and disease management in organic farming system, preparation of fertilizers, bio composts and herbal medicines. Information on the key schemes of the government to include crop insurance through Pradhan Mantari Fasal Bima Yojana will be also given.

Apart from the presentations, extensive field visits to organic farms at Icar- NOFRI, Atma farm schools and farmers field at Duga Kameray, Pakyong and orchid  farm at Rumtek.

The farmers expressed their satisfaction and gratitude to Assam Rifles on conduct of the tour and acknowledged that it was extremely informative and enlightening experience. The farmers said that the knowledge gained during the tour will be used by them to promote techniques of organic farming in their respective remote villages all over the North East.
