Imphal, Aug. 19 (EMN): The Manipur Governor Dr Najma Heptulla congratulated the Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar Award 2018 awardees including two awardees from Manipur namely Manju Elangbam who received prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2018 in the field of Manipuri dance and A Aneshori Devi who received Yuva Puraskar in the field of traditional  and folk dance.

Attending the award distribution ceremony as chief guest at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy in Imphal, Dr Heptulla expressed confidence that many more young talented artistes from the state will earn name and awards in different fields in the years to come.

Stating that dance and music symbolising joys and jubilations of generations, holds the imprints of their long social and cultural history and tradition, she said artistes of every generation have interpreted them and further enriched the tradition.

‘We must ensure the survival of our traditional art, our dance forms and our music. We should encourage our youth to keep these skills and creativity alive and robust,’ she added.

Chairman Shekhar Sen and Secretary Rita Swami Choudhary of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi attended the award ceremony function.

The Ustad Bismallah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2018 was awarded to 32 recipients in four different categories. Those  who won the aerds are Shameehan Kashalkar and Ruchira Kedar (Hindustan Vocal Music), Dhruv Bedi (Sitar), Shubh Maharaj (Tabla), Sandeep Narayan (Carnatic Vocal Music), JB Shruti Sagar(Flute), R.Sridhar (Violin) and MD Pallavi (Bhava Sangeet),Renjith Babu and Vijna Rani Vasudevan( Bharatnatyam),Dugesh Gangani (Kathak), Kalamandalam Yaishak (Kathakali), Madhulita Mohapatra(Odissi), Anjali Borbora Borthakur(Sattriya), Rkesh Sai Babu(Chhau) and Vikram Mohan(Contemporary Dance),Chavan Pramod R (Direction), Namrata Sharma,Sunil Pawal and Priti Jha Tiwari(Acting), Kuldeep Patgiri(Mime), Subhadeep Guha (Music for Theatre) and Kalamandalam Sajith Vijayan (Kutiyattam),Chandan Tiwari (Folk Music), Dinesh Kumar Jangde ( Panthi Dance), Manoj Kumat Das(Khol), Chandni Manshih Zala(Pupetry),R Rajkumar (Folk Dance), Madhushree Hatial(Jhumer) and Ashok Kumar (Birha).

The “Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar” was instituted by the Sangeet NatakAkademi in the year  2006 which is awarded annually to young and upcoming artistes who have demonstrated notable talent in the fields of music, dance and drama. The award is conferred upon artistes below the age of 40 years giving them national recognition early in their life so that they may work with greater commitment and dedication in their chosen fields.
