Imphal, Jan. 22 (EMN):
Manipur’s second Public Prosecutor office was inaugurated on Wednesday at Senapati district headquarters, 60 km north of Imphal.

The new office was constructed at the cost of around INR 76 lakh.

Speaking at the opening programme, Law and Legislative Affairs Minister L Jayantakumar Singh said there are many areas to be developed in this sector but taking up new policies and developmental projects will take time.

He said the state government and the Law department are keen to take up new initiatives and new actions to have a world class judicial system in the state.

“To know the rule of prudence is more important than reading many law books as citizens need to be prudent and act prudently,” the minister maintained.

Elaborating the role of the lawyers, he said ‘people need to see the white part of the lawyers under the black coat which they are using as their code dress.’

The minister said people have misconceptions about lawyers, but the profession is very humble.

The duty assigned to judges, justice and public prosecutors is to find the truth and this should be understood and maintained by the legal fraternity in order to enlighten the public and maintain peace and tranquillity in the society, the minister added.

Endorsing the important role of the judiciary based on his life experience, Fisheries Minister Kayisii appreciated the state government for the construction of the office.
