Manipur CM condemns killing of Kuki village chief and nephew

Imphal, July 11 (EMN):
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has condemned the killing of Hengjang Kuki village chief Thangneo Kipgen (58) and his nephew Thangminlun Haokip (26) by an unidentified gunmen.

On July 10 at around 12:30 pm, an unidentified gunmen suspected to be armed militants had killed Hengjang Kuki village chief and his nephew, while the duo were reportedly travelling in a private vehicle between Keihao and Hengjang village under Island block in Kangpokpi district of Manipur.

While strongly condemning the dastardly act of targeting innocent lives without any reason, the chief minister said that there is no place for such heinous crimes in a civilized society.

He informed that an investigation into the incident is in progress.

Assuring that the perpetrators would be nabbed as soon as possible, he urged the Hengjang villagers to maintain calm at this hour of sorrow.

The chief minister also shared grief and sorrow with the bereaved family members and prayed for the departed souls to rest in peace.

Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi District while strongly condemning the incident, demanded that the culprits be booked at the earliest.

Various organisations from all across the state have condemned the killing.
