Manipur: Centre will take forward the proposals to enhance medical institutions — Harsh Vardhan

Imphal, Sep. 14 (EMN): Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Harsh Vardhan on Saturday said that the Centre will take forward the proposals to enhance medical institutions.
Addressing the gathering at the 48th foundation day and graduation of the Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in Imphal, Vardhan said that the central government will work for various development aspects in Northeast region.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modiji also keeps on asking about the region when the Union Cabinet discuss the development aspects of the country,” Vardhan said.

The Union Minister further advised the newly passed out young medical professionals to work hard with innovative ideas.

Highlighting the health facilities provided by the state government in the last two and half years of the BJP-led coalition government, state Chief Minister N Biren Singh said, out of 74,121 families enrolled under the Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang, a health scheme, 14,568 families were given benefits, amounting to INR 20.74 crore since its establishment.

He said so far 5,907 patients got benefits at RIMS alone involving a total claim of INR 933.48 lakh.
Similarly, 2,144 claims have been made under PMJAY- Ayushman Bharat at RIMS, involving a total claim of INR 3.80 crore, he informed.

The chief minister urged the Union minister to take up necessary steps to uplift RIMS at the level of AIIMS and also for the commencement of air-ambulance service in the state. Lok Sabha MP Dr. RK Ranjan also expressed the need to develop more medical colleges considering the existing quality private hospitals in the state.

Secretary Preeti Sudan of Union Ministry of Health sought support and cooperation from concerned parties in achieving the target of eliminating tuberculosis by 2025 in the country.

Presenting the annual report of 2018-19, RIMS Director Dr. A Santa Singho, said the 48-year-old institute has produced 3,454 doctors, 1842 specialists, 61 clinical psychologists and 115 bachelor of dental surgery doctors besides 193 BSc nursing since its establishment.

On the occasion, an annual magazine was also released besides felicitating meritorious medical students and outgoing students.

Later, Union minister attended the governor’s council meeting of RIMS. He also and visited cancer patients undergoing treatment at the hospital.
