Main accused in Khatkhati trader’s murder arrested

Dimapur, July 11: The main accused in the murder of Moolsingh Rathore, a liquor trader from Khatkhati in Assam, was arrested in Kolkata on July 8 by a special team from Karbi Anglong police led by the officer in-charge of Khatkhati police station.
A highly reliable source told Eastern Mirror on Thursday that the accused—Sandip Mishra, a resident of Asansol in the district of Burdwan, West Bengal—was apprehended in Kolkata with the help of the local police and Odisha police.
Mishra was produced before a local court in Kolkata on July 9 and was being brought to Khatkhati during the filing of this report for further interrogation, the source informed.
Interestingly, according to the source, the accused was employed as a manager at the hotel run by Rathore. He had left for Kolkata 20 days before the killing, the source informed. “He was involved in lots of financial mismanagement while dealing with Rathore’s businesses,” the source said.
On the night of June 23, six or seven masked men armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols had entered the residence of Rathore at around 8.30 pm and killed him.
Two days after the incident, two persons were arrested on charges of committing the crime.
A top police official had said that one of the suspected perpetrators, Mohammed Aizul Islam (27) was arrested from Bagori (Nagaon) in Assam.
The other accused, Nitish Kumar Thakur (27) was arrested from Dimapur.
