Dimapur, Aug. 13 (EMN): The Longleng District Planning & Development Board has approved the local area development programme for the district for 2019-20, updates informed.

The Longleng District Planning & Development Board met on August 13 in the district’s deputy commissioner’s conference hall in Longleng. The meeting was presided over by BS Nganlang Phom, chairman of the board.

The government publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), issued updates on Tuesday informing about the meeting.

According to the IPR, the board approved the local area development programme for 2019-20 for the 49th Tamlu assembly constituency and the 50th Longleng assembly constituency.

“It also recommended for construction of retaining/protection wall above CMO office and district hospital, Longleng to the concern department. After discussing the agenda proposed by the deputy commissioner for electrification in new site where new government buildings/quarters are coming up the board directed the SDO (power) to prepare the DPR and submit in the next meeting for approval,” the IPR stated.

During the meeting, Phom exhorted the members, the IPR said. For any organization to function successfully, good teamwork is required for fruitful results, he said. He urged for collective effort of the board members for effective planning in the district.

The minister for Health and Family Welfare S Pangnyu Phom said in his short speech that the DPDB was an important platform not only for discussions and ‘sharing problems.’ The meetings are essential for approving schemes and projects for the district, he said.

Pangnyu informed that a Cabinet meeting of the Nagaland government may be held in Longleng district at any time. He urged the members to be ‘alert and active with their respective departmental activities.’

Further, he appealed to the board members to extend all possible help and cooperation to nongovernmental organisations who are working for the uplift of the district.

Deputy Commissioner John Tsulise Sangtam appealed to the members to be regular in the activities of the district. He cautioned that any member who is found absent for three consecutive DPDB meetings ‘will be reflected in the APAR.’

Sangtam also informed the elected members about Jal Shakti Abhiyaan activities in Longleng. He informed that Longleng was selected for the scheme due to shortage of groundwater and scarcity of water in the district.
