Dimapur, June 12 (EMN): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has issued a notice informing all the citizens of Dimapur that it has reaffirmed its “19-tribe public meeting resolution” taken in 2012, and then in 2016 at the Naga Council Hall not to allow any organisation “to arbitrarily impose any lightning bandhs or strikes” in the city.

The resolution was reaffirmed at a NCD’s executive meeting held on June 10, informed the council in a statement. It came close on the heels of some college students in Dimapur imposing bandh in the city to protest state police’s action on protestors (ANCSU members) in Kohima.

“Such arbitrary imposition of lightning bandhs/strikes has inflicted immense suffering to general public on several occasions through riot, violence, arson, etc., thereby disturbing public peace and resulting in loss of lives/properties and creating communal/tribal disharmony and enmity.

“Any organisation, Hohos, unions, associations, etc. found guilty of imposing such arbitrary, random and illegal lightning bandhs/strikes shall be considered non-cooperative, anti-social and harmful to the peaceful co-existence of Naga society and shall not, therefore, be considered for any partnership with peace-loving Civil Society and District Administration should take strong legal action without fear or favour,” read the statement.

It went on to say that any organisations intending to organise democratic form of protests for any legitimate grievances should do so “with due permission from District Administration and consult/inform Naga Council, DCC, and DNSU at least 3 (three) days in advance for further public awareness to avoid public hardship.”

The council also asked the business establishments, educational institutions, departments etc. not to co-operate with calls for sudden bandh and strikes but to “report such matter to the district administration/police immediately and inform the Naga Council, DCCl, DNSU for proper coordination with authorities” to ensure peace in the city.
