Dimapur, Jan. 22 (EMN): The General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Sanjive Roy has said that encroachment of railway land is hampering development of Dimapur Railway Station.

Roy expressed regret over the land encroachment after inspecting the ongoing construction and developmental work at Dimapur railway station on Wednesday afternoon, informed an update.

The manager, after assessing the completed and ongoing projects, requested for cooperation from the public, civil society and the government to develop Dimapur station, which is the second highest revenue earning station under NFR, the statement said.  Roy also inaugurated several completed renovation projects including “premier air-conditioned waiting hall for passengers on the platform No. 1 and cloakroom,” it said.

The Nagaland State Railway Contractors’ Union submitted a representation to the general manager highlighting the need for revamping the station and providing facilities like “new station building with a bigger and higher central area, bigger waiting halls, a state of the art paid executive waiting hall, processed food and water vending machines, increased number of retiring rooms, fast food unit and stalls inside the building and all offices to be shifted to the upper floor and ground floor to be kept only for the passengers,” read the statement.

The union stated that construction of roads and drainage in the colony was required, and more than 50-year-old quarters inside the colony needed to be renovated. It also sought deployment of more security personnel and a patrol squad to deal with land encroachers.
