Dimapur, June 19 (EMN): A Naga woman, Onen Nenty, in her attempt to achieve the feat of touring solo across Nagaland, is trying to raise the benchmark for women in the state. Travelling in her Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle, she hopes to empower women and unravel the satisfaction of following one’s heart through her journey.

“God and passion is taking me to the 12 districts of Nagaland to tell how fulfilling it is to do something your heart so desire,” she said.

The 27-year-old aspires to reach out to women and listen to their “untold stories”. She wants to share her story and challenge her limits through this trip. “If their stories and mine inspire someone, it would be an achievement,” Nenty said.

The tour was flagged off by Nagaland Governor PB Acharya and his wife Kavita, at Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Wednesday morning. She will be travelling across the state under the banner “Kongro Naga on Wheels” (KNOW) and the slogan “Passion with a mission.”

KNOW is a non-profit organisation founded by Nenty in association with K&K Motors, Monster Beverage and Dream Café. It envisages to encourage women empowerment and to take up issues of social relevance.

Nenty, who started having interest in motorcycles as a child, said that riding is the time when she could “meditate and go soul-searching.”

“My trip to Ladhak was a spiritual awakening. I rode and cried for as long as I could remember and that for me was the purest moments felt,” she shared. From then on, she never gave up her passion of riding. She also urged the people to make the best use of the opportunities given to them.

Nenty said she was unsure about the duration of her tour. However, she will go to Kiphire first before heading to other districts.

Commissioner-secretary to the governor, Dinesh Kumar, lauded Nenty for taking a “remarkable step” to tour during the rainy season. He was optimistic that her tour would empower women and challenge others to stand on own feet.

He expressed confidence that her bike rally would “capture the imagination of the people, empowering our women in demonstrating the essential oneness of our integrated region.”

“It is important for people to see that you as women are as able as the men,” he said, and wished her best on her journey.

Nenty, who works in a bank, hails from Chuchuyimpang village under Ongpangkong range in Mokokchung district.
