Eighteen villages/units participated in the event, which was organised on the theme: unity through sports. The athletic disciplines included high jump, long jump, race (relay, sack, and obstacle), shot put, arm wrestling, tug-of-war. Recreational in character, though competitive in spirit, were the events like slow bicycle race, egg catching, three-leg race, and spoon race.
The president of Sumi Games and Sports Association Akihito Zhimomi was the guest of honour on Friday. In his brief speech, Zhimomi encouraged the participants to pursue sport as a serious career option, and not just a recreational activity.
Academic studies as well as sport activities should be given equal dedication by all students, he said.
