Kohima, Dec. 19 (EMN): Opposition legislator Khriehu Liezietsu inaugurated Dapfhiitsumia Indoor Stadium on December 19 at the D Khel ground in Kohima. In his address at the programme, Liezietsu urged sports lovers to make best use of the stadium and excel in the field of games and sports. He was optimistic that the newly inaugurated stadium would develop sporting talents and cultivate professionalism in them.

Liezietsu, who is from the Naga People’s Front, opined that the stadium can be a multi-purpose facility for holding other events apart from hosting sporting activities. He urged the people to make best use of it.

The legislator suggested to the Dapfhiitsumia Youth Organisation to organise coaching programmes to nurture youngsters and budding talents to develop their skills and learn professionalism.

According to Liezietsu, the Naga people play all sports disciplines but ‘lack excellence’ as they do not concentrate on a particular field to be professionals. He exhorted the sportspersons to get trained, maintain a strict diet, be disciplined, and to ‘follow rules’ in order for them to excel. He said there is no shortcut to excellence except through hard work and consistency.

He observed that the Naga people also have the potential to excel, as exemplified by the presence of prominent indoor sportspersons mostly from Asian countries. He urged the sportspersons to have goals.

A report of the indoor stadium construction committee was presented by its banker Robert Kire. It was informed that the stadium was funded by the department of Youth Resources and Sports, and constructed with a sum of INR 1.5 crore.

The dedicatory prayer was said by Khriezosietuo Kire, pastor of the CRC in the High School area. A folk song was sung by a group called Cultural Promotion Society of D Khel, during the programme.

With the new stadium, Kohima village has now four stadiums funded by the department of Youth Resources and Sports.
