Kivi Zhimomi debuts at I-League for Gokulam Kerala FC

Kohima, Jan. 8 (EMN): Kivi Zhimomi, the striker for Gokulam Kerala Football Club (GKFC) debuted at the I-League match against Minerva Punjab FC at the EMS Stadium in Calicut on Jan. 6. The 22-year-old Kivi Zhimomi became the 4th person from Nagaland to play at India’s top tier league after Kwethelhi Thopi, James Kithan and Roko Angami.
Talking to Eastern Mirror, Kivi Zhimomi said: “every player has a dream to play his own national league so I am happy for my achievement playing at the Indian Hero I-league.”
Kivi V Zhimomi was born and brought up in Dimapur and is the youngest of six children. He started his football career in the year 2010 from State Sports Academy, Dimapur. He can play as striker or winger.
He has played for Viva Chennai FC, Rangdajied United FC, Shillong and a product of Dimapur sports academy. He was also a former player of Mohammedan Sporting Club, Kolkata, one of the oldest clubs in Asia. He also played in the now-defunct Nagaland Premier League for Naga Tornadoes and Kohima Komets.
In the match at Kerala, a solitary goal from Bali Ganadeep in the first half helped Minerva Punjab FC to win over hosts GKFC 1-0 in the Hero Indian League match on Saturday evening. The defeat means Gokulam team slumped to their fifth defeat of the season of the I-League matches, having played seven matches so far, the team sits in the second bottom with four points of the I-league table.
It may be mentioned the debutants team Gokulam FC is a professional football club based in Kozhikode, Kerala and owned by the Sree Gokulam Group, a business establishment. The Club began competing in the I-League, the first division of Indian football, in the 2017–18 I-League season.
