Dimapur, Aug. 17 (EMN): Rallying behind the coach of Nagaland State Sports Academy, Mughato Sumi, Kuhuboto Ghakhu Sports Association (KGSA) stated that selection of deserving candidate for any award should be based on achievements and performances.

The association has termed as ‘impartial, injustice and discrimination’ in denying the Dr. T Ao Sports Award to Mughato Sumi. To substantiate its claim, the association stated that Mughato Sumi was conferred two times best coach award (international), one time best coach award (national), best coach (Royal Gold Cup) 2009, state coach award 2013, Governor’s Gold medallist in the field of sports 2015. Besides, it stated that twelve players have represented India in various categories under his guidance till date.

The association president, Kakheto Assumi, and the general secretary, Xusheto Zhimo, stated that Mughato Sumi is a role model not only for Sumis but Nagas in general. It stated that Mughato Sumi had produced one and only ISL player from Nagaland in the personality of Kivi Zhimomi, who also happens to be from the Sumi community.

Taking into account of all the factors, the association has questioned if the awards are only meant for some few particular tribes?

KGSA has appealed to the state chief minister to deliver justice if at all the government is really serious for a change and transparency without any ‘ism or partiality.’
