JGHSS, Viswema are champions of Kohima District Inter-School Football Tournament

Kohima, July 15 (EMN): John Government Higher Secondary School, Viswema emerged champions of third edition of the Kohima District Inter-School Football Tournament 2019 after beating Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School 4-1, in the final match at the IG Stadium in Kohima on July 15.

The new champions received a cash prize of INR 70,000 along with running trophy and citation while the runners-up team Rüzhükhrie GHSS received INR 50,000 along with trophy and citation.

In the final match, John GHSS, Viswema scored the first goal in the 4th minute from the boot of Justin Malangmei. The first half ended 1-0 in favour of JGHSS, Viswema and the team went on to score three more goals in the second half.

Interestingly, all the three goals were scored in a span of nine minutes. Kelethuto Kin scored in the 51st minute, while the remaining two goals were netted by Vichüto Phira in the 53rd and 59th minute respectively.

On the other hand, Kevize-u Semou managed to score a solitary goal for Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School in the 65th minute.

The semi-finalist teams—St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School and Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Kohima received INR 20,000 each.

The best discipline team was awarded to Mt. Sinai Higher Secondary School while the best cheering school went to Stella Higher Secondary School. Both the schools received INR 5000 each.

Tepevil Thokhwe (Captain) of St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School was adjudged as the Player of The Tournament and received INR 5,000. Vichüto Phira (C) of John Government Higher Secondary School was awarded the highest scorer of the tournament and received INR 5,000.

Principal Secretary of School Education, Menukhol John gave away the prizes to the winners after the match.

Around 500 male students from 32 schools in Kohima district participated in the tournament. It was jointly organised by the Royal Club Kohima, Department of School Education and Youth Resources & Sports (YRS).

The staff and Eco Club of John Government Higher Secondary School along with staff of IG Stadium cleared off the trash left by the spectators after the game.
